Underground electrical lines become popular because they are more reliable and less destructive to the landscape. You see them in commercial developments, neighborhoods, and on properties in rural areas. A major advantage of the underground electrical lines is reliability, because they are not affected by wind, ice, lightning or falling trees. 

For clients that own a property with trees, the main reason to go underground is to keep as many trees as possible. Just look at the pictures underneath. By Texas law, an overhead powerline requires a 30ft horizontal and vertical clearing. Compare this to the 20ft horizontal requirement for underground power lines. This means removing fewer trees and less trimming, preserving the natural beauty of the property.  

 
Underground power lines used to be expensive, that has changed. Yes, if we install underground power lines only, the cost will be more than that of overhead power lines. But if we use the same 20ft clearing for the electric, water and your driveway then the price comes out lower than what you will pay if you install it separately.
